Last Saturday Delta threw open its doors to welcome visitors to the village's Third Annual Harvest Festival. Best ever might be the way many organizers described this year's event which attracted many peo- ple to the village on a sunny day. The Delta Agricultural Society's car show at the fairgrounds brought more than 60 cars this year after the fine weather and a mass mail out to vintage automobile owners and word of mouth tripled the event's participants. The vintage cars were one element of activities around the agricultural hall which included coun- try musicians Texas Tuxe- do on the grandstand stage, vendors in the hall's first floor, and more ven- dors outside the building. Rides on Marwin and Kathi Antoine's wagon with their attractive pair of horses was a pleasure of many people's day. Over at the Mill Anna Greenhorn was busy on the third floor enjoying the attentions of a non-stop The Township of Rideau Lakes has support- ed the North Crosby Recreation/Parks /Events Committee in its imple- mentation of the Canada Day Event previously held at the Westport Lions Beach in Sand Lake Park and recently at Rideau Vista Public School, both locations physically with- in Rideau Lakes, for over 15 years. Coordinator of the Canada Day Event Cathy Davison, a volunteer on the North Crosby Recre- ation/Parks/Events Com- mittee has handed in her resignation for this event. "I feel it is time, after 22 years, we need new energy" she said at a pre- liminary organizational meeting held last week in Chantry. Originally started by a group of individuals through the Chamber of Commerce over 20 years ago, the realization that insurance was a major fac- tor in keeping this event going, Rideau Lakes stepped forward and under the umbrella of its Com- munity and Leisure Ser- vices Department offered to support the event. The Village of Westport also offered their support for events in the village and together the Canada Day event grew into the suc- cess it is today. Councillor Bob Lavoie has suggested we need to bring all interested parties together to create a new Township seeking input on future of Westport-North Crosby Canada Day Thursday, October 5, 2017 Serving North Leeds and area since 1893 Vol. 126, No. 39 $1 incl. tax Canada Post Contract No. 40021501 Rideau Vista students got a perfect day for their Terry Fox run last Thursday, an event which raised $1902 for the Terry Fox Foundation. 75 units from 6'x6' to 12'x36' Easy year round access right in Westport 75 units from 6'x6' to 12'x36' Easy year round access right in Westport 75 units from 6'x6' to 12'x36' Easy year round access right in Westport 75 units from 6'x6' to 12'x36' Easy year round access right in Westport Soho's Self Storage Soho's Self Storage Soho's Self Storage Soho's Self Storage Soho's Self Storage 75 units from 6'x6' to 12'x36' Easy year round access right in Westport 43 Bedford St., Westport 613-273-8848 soho@rideau.net Mirror The Review Overlooking Lake, Locks & Falls at Jones Falls, Elgin Exceptional Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner 613-359-5500 Reservations Recommended. The second phase of development also includes three cottages as well as two 12-unit two-storey hotel units with some adjoining rooms. "We will be able to host corporate retreats, groups, families and short-stay guests all year round once this is complete. "It will also allow us to employ more local work- ers on a year-round basis. We're looking forward to the positive impact this added capacity will have," said Opinicon General Manager Peter McFarland. The request included a minor variance to reduce the setback for two of the new cottages as well as site plan approval for phase two of the resort's development. Two of the new cabins will be adjacent to each other, behind the annex and the ice cream parlor. The third cottage is at the top of the hill on the left of the road leading past the cottages and to the lake. The two multi-unit buildings are located at the east end of the property and will visually block their parking area which is located on the side of the unit away from the lake. The next flurry of con- struction follows this year's completion of the renovations to the main lodge, a new kitchen, new parking spaces, a new shed/workshop and improvement of the play- ground area. The completion of a patio and pool adjacent to the dining room is also expected by next summer.
