Beyond Trade Shows Photo 2: This permanent, interactive, Congressional Medal of Honor exhibit, located in the Pueblo Convention Center in Pueblo, Colo., was created to honor the four recipients who grew up in the Pueblo area. A promotional exhibit may have other uses beyond trade shows. A student's information retention is 85% aſter five weeks using educa- tional exhibits with inter- active participation. Let's look at this definition a little more closely. "An environment" is a good description of an exhibit because you can transform the exhibit space into most anything you want. The exhibit can be designed to help "educate and influ- ence" the visitors in addition to creat- ing interest and attracting the audience. When evaluating what message, shape, or theme to present, you need to consider the audience and strive to establish not only a long-lasting impression but also a "positive" one. It is a key to success to make a lasting impression, because the buyer's timetable to purchase the offer- ing may not be immediate. 68 • November 2012 • SIGN & DIGITAL GRAPHICS Educational Exhibits Educational exhibits and displays can be very interesting, yet challenging, to create. These types of exhibits range from very simple to very complex dis- plays that may include the very latest and greatest technologies. (See Photo 2) Many museums and visitor centers have converted their static educational exhibits to hands-on interactive exhibits. On a recent visit to a museum in Denver, CO to review some ideas I had seen in the past for a low cost interactive option, I discovered that all the "old school" dis- plays had been replaced with electronic, hands-on displays. And most all of the visitors were actively engaged in the educational processes. I recognized this same scenario the last time that I visited Disney World, but I was actually expect- ing it there.
