Attachment To The Existing Structure Let's face it, until it's time to install, there are always some questions that will remain unanswered until the new sign is on location and is ready to be attached to the existing sign. Steps must be taken during the design process to make sure there is ample wrench room and clear- ances for a proper fitment to the exist- ing structure. (Illustration 2) Working with angled, square tube and rec tube framing materials, I designed the ret- rofit with tolerances that allowed for a little wiggle room during installation. In this way the fabricators know that the parts and pieces they are fabricating will fit, yet there will be enough room inside the structural "cage" to securely fit things together despite the possibility of variance in the existing structure. Simply put, the more accurate the survey the better it will all fit together in the field.
