SHELTER | PLAY Yacht Watch new wave The Palmer Johnson 210. Own a piece of rock and roll history—sort of. The 101-foot W.N. Ragland enjoyed more than 35 years in the hands of music legend Neil Young. Built in Denmark in 1913, the all-wood schooner was redesigned as a luxury cruiser. Much of that work was done for Young, who acquired her in the 1970s. Many original fittings remain, including bronze acces- sories on deck. Other features include maple flooring from the Wind- sor Hotel ballroom in New York City. The mas- ter stateroom occupies a significant portion of the lower deck as well. wnragland.com. —D.B. sail away W.N. Ragland. sailing grace Palmer Johnson calls its new 210-footer a “game- changer,” and judging from a few of the tri-deck yacht’s features, it’s not exagger- ating. Take the fold-down platform in the master suite, forward on the main deck. This balcony over the sea lets you enjoy a morning cup of coffee or simply take in the view. The master stateroom also includes four large, round windows to each side, a departure from the more traditional square panes, complementing the over- all curvy profile. It’s all courtesy of the Italian firm Nuvolari & Lenard, renowned for incorporating flowing, graceful lines into a number of yachts, including other Palmer Johnsons from 120 to 170 feet long. Something else that Nuvolari & Lenard and Palmer Johnson wanted to emphasize: relaxation. That’s why there are two full-size pools—no mere hot tubs—on deck, one forward and one aft. For the ulti- mate in casual living, the aft portion of the main deck can become part of a “beach club,” thereby moving the formal dining room up to the second deck. The four guest staterooms on the lower deck are just steps away from a gym and sauna. The first 210 is already under contract, being launched next year.
