GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 28, ISSUE 2 26 schedule, with our experience and with how we know how to win," Thompson said. "You know, all we've done our whole career is win and help Purdue get back to where it wants to go. I think we have the opportunity to win another Big Ten championship and make a run in the NCAA Tournament." LETHAL FROM DEEP Swanigan was a 45-percent three-point shooter as a post player, and a savant-like passer from the paint, so often the starting point for Purdue's entire perimeter shooting operation. He'll be missed. That said, there may not be a PURDUE 2017-18 SCHEDULE Date Opponent (TV) Time Oct. 28 INDIANA STATE& (Exh.) 3 p.m. Nov. 1 CARROLL (Mont.) (Exh.) It has reason to be, with a formidable corps of shooters returning. Purdue shot better than 40 percent last season, exactly 40 percent in Big Ten games, tops in the league. Only a half dozen teams shot a higher percentage last season than Pur- due, those being Marquette, Weber State, Kennesaw State, UCLA, SMU and Kansas. Wofford and Wichita State matched Purdue's 40.3-percent success rate. Most of the shooters who made it happen are back. Mathias shot 45.3 percent for the season, even better in Big Ten play, and figures to make a run at E'Twaun Moore's Purdue career record of 243 threes. Mathias needs 89 this season, 17 more than he made as a junior. Vincent Edwards is a returning 42.3-percent shooter, coming off a 54-per- cent surge on high volume at the World University Games. He'll almost exclusively be playing the 4 position this season, providing him consistent access to the sorts of matchups he's typically thrived against. Ryan Cline shot 41-plus percent as a sophomore, while Thompson shot a shade above 40 percent himself as a junior, with a knack for making par- ticularly timely shots. Carsen Edwards, for the season last year, shot just 34 percent, but he
