48 / NOVEMBER.DECEMBER.2017 USICERINKS.COM u.s. ice rink NEWS Updates from the United States Ice Rink Association , The Membership Committee, led by Alec Hines, presents 2018 strategies to the Board of Directors for the United States Ice Rink Association. Annual Board of Directors Meeting On Oct. 17 and 18, the United States Ice Rink Association Board of Directors met in Colorado Springs, Colo., for their annual meeting to discuss current business and set goals and objectives for 2018. During the meeting, the following topics were discussed: • NARCE Present & Future • Membership Benefits & Resources • Education & Recertification • Marketing & Social Media • Governance Policies & Procedures This meeting also provided our newly elected board members their first opportunity to interact with current board members and contribute to the process of providing direction and leadership for the organization. Annual Membership Meeting On Oct. 17, the annual membership meeting was held in Colorado Springs. An operations report was presented by COO Jeff Theiler, and an amendment to bylaw Section 3.3 was voted on and approved. A copy of the meeting minutes and the updated and restated organization bylaws are available for view in the "Members Only Resources" section of usicerinks.com. New Member Online Discussion Forum Launched The United States Ice Rink Association is excited to announce a brand-new Member Discussion Forum added to the Member Only Resources area of www.usicerinks. com. This new online forum will allow our members to submit questions and receive answers in real time from fellow members all across the country. Current discussion topic categories include: • General Operations • Ice Making & Maintenance • Ice Resurfacer Operation/Maintenance • Refrigeration/HVAC/Dehumidification • Human Resources • Programming/Ice Rental • Risk Management/Insurance • Marketing/Advertising/Promotions • Customer Service • Cleaning/Janitorial To access this new and valuable resource visit: usicerinks.com/ resources/member-only-resources. J Another Successful Regional Training Program Season Concludes In early November, the final courses for the 2017 Regional Training Program season will take place at Sharks Ice in San Jose, California. This year we held 21 CIT/CRA courses at 14 different locations around the country, with over 250 students successfully completing the courses. Additionally, there were 10 SIRO courses held around the country, with over 140 students participating in those courses. We congratulate the 88 members that earned a United States Ice Rink Association professional designation in 2017. We would like to thank the Facility Members that hosted training programs, the instructors who contributed their time and expertise, and all of the students for their commitment to continuing their education and professional development. The 2018 Regional Training Program host applications will be sent to all Facility Members this December.
