S I G N & D I G I T A L G R A P H I C S • December 2017 • 43 Figure 12a: Recolor the right side of the face so that it is slightly different. Figure 11: Reflect the right half of the face across a vertical axis. Open the Layers panel and expand the Triangle layer so that you see the individ- ual sub-layers (see Figure 9). Click the circle to the right of the top most sub-layer (the select icon) to select the specific triangle. Then choose the Eyedropper tool and sample the color of the template directly under the tri- angle. Voila! The trian- gle fills with that color. Click on the Select icon in the Layers panel of the next layer down and sample the color with the Eyedropper tool of the second triangle. Repeat the process until all of the triangles are filled with color (see Figure 10). Make sure there are no gaps between the triangles. If there are, or there are missing triangles, draw a triangle to fill in the gaps. Inevitably, you will have to do a bit of cleanup work to ensure that all the spaces are filled. Reflect If you are creating a symmetrical face like this one, you'll need to copy and flip the triangles. With so many objects, it's wise to group them so that they can be efficiently selected. Choose Select All from the Select menu and then choose Object > Group. From the Object menu choose Transform > Reflect and from the dialog box choose Axis > Vertical (see Figure 11). Then click Copy. Make a new Layer, and name it "right" and drag the group of triangles to the new layer. Next, drag the reflected triangles and place them to the right and adjacent to the left side of the face. Modify You may want to modify the color of the right side a bit so that it is a little different from the left side. With the tri- angle selected, choose Edit > Edit Colors > Recolor Artwork. Click the Edit button and then modify the colors by dragging the circles on the color wheel. If you click the link icon you can change all of the colors simultaneously. Experiment until you find the right color combination (see Figure 12a, 12b). Figure 12b with equipment, technologies and products For more information, visit: or call 800.560.9941 Get
