The top-placing U.S. rider at both the 2014 Alltech FEI World
Equestrian Games in Normandy, France riding Shamwari 4,
and the 2010 WEG in Lexington, riding Neville Bardos; and
a member of the 2016 and 2012 US Olympic Teams, Boyd
Martin is one of the leading event riders of today.
After overcoming great adversity including a devastating
barn fire and the deaths of his father and father-in-law in
2011, Boyd made an amazing comeback to finish seventh
at Burghley, the toughest event in the world. Boyd finished
2011 ranked eighth on the HSBC World Rankings, Neville
Bardos was named the 2011 International Horse of the Year
by the USEF, and The Chronicle of the Horse named Boyd its
2011 Overall Rider of the Year.
Born and raised in Australia to Winter Olympic athletes
Toy (Dorgan) and Ross Martin, Boyd relocated to the U.S.
in 2007 to pursue his dream of competing in international
three-day eventing. As his mother is an American citizen he
has always enjoyed dual citizenship, and in 2009 he officially
began representing the United States in international competition.
Prior to moving to the U.S., Boyd was extremely successful in Australia, where he trained out of
Heath and Rozzie Ryan's equestrian center. He represented Australia at the Young Rider level
against New Zealand at a Trans-Tasman three-day event on Brady Bunch, and the highlight of his
competitive career there was winning the ver y last long-format four-star event at the 2003 Adelaide
CCI4* riding True Blue Toozac. Boyd was long listed for the Australian Eventing Team for the
Olympic Games in Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Hong Kong 2008.
He spent his first two years in the United States working as assistant trainer to Olympic Gold
Medalist Phillip Dutton before striking out on his own. Today Boyd and his wife Silva, a Grand Prix
dressage rider, own and operate their farm Windurra USA in Cochranville, Pa.
