A&E: When did you decide it was time to retire? Veteto: In 2015, I suffered a severe dia- betic attack and was forced to hang up my car keys and come in off the road... I was done. A&E: What was the hardest part about being on the road so often? The hardest part about traveling a lot was being away from home and my family. This was before cell phones and email, so it was a little different than it is today. The most challenging part was planning my trips. It got easier as the years went by, but in the beginning, it was a real nightmare. Figuring out who I was going to call on each day, and making the motel reserva- tions to match up with the towns I would be in, took a lot of my time pre-planning. A&E: What's the most important learning point you can share? Remember, from the time we can speak, we are taught the importance of saying, "Thank you." As an industry, that's what we do, we supply thank-yous. What a great way to make a living! Editor's Note: You can read Otis' column, The Old Coach, in the late 2014 and 2015 issues of A&E.
