Candy Cane Final Finishers Awarded Walter Prince and the Candy Cane racing team are well known for their generous donations to last place finishers at the SCORE Baja 1000. This year, the Candy Cane Final Finishers awards were given to two and four-wheel finishers who crossed the finish line before the 48-hour time limit. For this year’s 50th BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000, a $500 award in the name of the Checker’s Pit Team, was given to Jovani Marquez from the 145a Sportsman Quad team. Marquez finished in 46:57:00. The four-wheel award of $500 was given to the Class 8 team of Dean Shlingmann, who finished in 47:50;06. “ It was a long 1,134 miles for us,” said Shlingmann. “But we never dreamed of giving up! We couldn’t be happier with the whole experience, it was really a dream come true for us.” “Congratulations on finishing the 50th,” said Walter Prince. “I have nothing but admiration for those who stick it out until the very end.” Apdaly Lopez Wins King Shock Zone Award Along with winning the 50th BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000 Overall, Carlos Apdaly Lopez in the number 1 RPM Off-Road Trophy Truck also sped through the King Shock Zone to win the award. “We were able to make up six minutes on the leaders from San Felipe to Puertecitos, no doubt due to our perfectly tuned suspension,” said Lopez. “That is the roughest part of the race course and here we were able to really pay attention to times and push the pace. Our King Shocks owned San Felipe and gave us the confidence to chase down the leaders in this infamously brutal section.” Bruce Brown, Father of Dust 2 Glory Director Dana Brown, Passes SCORE International wishes to acknowledge the passing of iconic documentary filmmaker/director Bruce Brown, the father of Dust 2 Glory filmmaker Dana Brown.
