BFGOODRICH TIRES RECOGNIZES RACERS Rob MacCachren and Rod Hall are honored by BFGoodrich Tires for their achievements in SCORE Baja RACING During the press conference and driver’s meeting a day before the race, BFGoodrich Tires honored racers who deserved much recognition for their contributions to the sport and the company. The first was Rod Hall, who was celebrating his 80th birthday and was honored for competing in all 50 official Baja 1000 races. “I think this is wonderful,” said Hall. “Thank you to the people of Baja for putting up with our racing.” Hall has won the SCORE Baja 1000 Overall once in his 50-years of the race, with Larry Minor in 1969. He thanked the crowd and added his own bit of humor regarding that one special win. “They talk about being in a rut...I was in a rut,” said Hall. “It kept getting deeper and deeper, but thanks to BFGoodrich Tires they made bigger tires, so I could keep making my rut deeper.” Hall pointed out that sometimes you have to have a lot of patience and attributed this to his wife Donna and their 58 years of marriage. Also honored at the press conference was Rob MacCachren, who has won the SCORE Baja 1000 four times, three of them in a row. BFGoodrich Tires’ director of motorsports Chris Baker presented MacCachren and Jason Voss, who co-drove with MacCachren, with a winner’s ring for their 2016 SCORE Baja 1000 victory. “Rob MacCachren has chosen to race on BFGoodrich Tires for more than 25 years,” said Baker. “We’ve been proud to be a part of his wins, especially the historic three consecutive overall SCORE Baja 1000 wins from 2014 to 2016. We present a ring to the overall winner every year if they’re racing on BFGoodrich Tires. This was a special year for us to honor Rob and Jason Voss. We wanted to thank them for demonstrating how far BFGoodrich Tires can be pushed in the harshest conditions.” For more than 40-years, BFGoodrich Tires has supported racers and provided pit assistance. The company’s unique relationship with SCORE was also highlighted at the press conference, by SCORE’s Marketing Director Jim Ryan, who thanked the company for their long-standing relationship and support. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the race, BFGoodrich Tires offered a huge prize to the overall winner of the race on the company’s tires. “We decided to up the ante this year with a $50,000 contingency prize for the overall winner if they were racing exclusively on BFGoodrich Tires,” said Baker. “We did this to recognize the milestone 50th anniversary of the SCORE Baja 1000 this year and to commemorate the first time BFGoodrich has been the title sponsor of the race.” The check was given after the race to Apdaly Lopez for his first-place, overall win.
