A&E FEBRUARY 2018 • a-e-mag.com 45 Sales & Marketing someone else. That person should preferably be a lawyer or someone that is knowledge- able about the subject at hand. Failure to do so may have unintended consequences later. Also make sure that all of your business dealings are above board, do not show any favoritism or bias, and avoid conflicts of interest. If you can afford it, bring in an outside party to educate your employees about what is appropriate and not in the workplace. Even if you think you can't afford it, do it anyway. You can't afford the consequences of the problems you risk from an uneducated workforce. As the owner of the business, stay away from anything that may have even a slight whiff of being inappropriate. Therefore, leave the entire issue alone and stay out of harm's way. DEFER TO EXPERTS In today's business environment, it is critical to hire a good attorney. Remember that this will be a long-term relationship, so make sure that this person is someone with whom you are compatible. Studio Workshop, Inc.
