The Review-Mirror January 11, 2018 – 16 Earlier this month the Sole Sisters, Sheila Coutts and France Murdoch, made stops in Perth to deliver some special funds raised by participants of their annual walk and run for cancer research. The pair delivered a cheque for $5000 to the Perth Great War Memorial Hospital Foundation (GWMHF) and one for $4,000 to the Perth office of the Canadian Cancer Society, accepted by the Cancer Society's Toby James, above. Draft discussion papers on land use plan- ning and policy issues will be presented for review Wed., Jan. 17 as part of Leeds and the Thousands Islands Offi- cial Plan Review. The event to be held at the administration building in Lansdowne from 5 to 7 p.m. is part of the public consulta- tion to create a new Offi- cial Plan. A presentation will be held at 6 p.m. The consultants are looking for the public's feedback on a number of issues including growth management and settle- ment area development; rural development – con- sents and subdivisions; housing; waterfront development; economic development; communi- ty improvement plan; natural environment and preliminary vision state- ments. A final open house will be held on February 20 before a special meet- ing of council on March 19, a meeting with a final draft on April 24 and a statutory public meeting on June 11. The intention is to pass the final document at the July 19 meeting of council. Continuing updates on the Official Plan review are available on the township website under the news and public notices tab at www.leeds1000islands.ca. •Continued from page 1 Selectra to be responsi- ble for the cost of hauling plus a potential $1,000 per day penalty commencing Nov 21. Westport current- ly has a 10 per cent hold- back on the project, which would total $210,000 based on Selectra's initial bid. "It is better news than I thought, things can still go bump in the night but it is good news," Mayor Jones told Council. Each filter bed can han- dle about 125m3 per day. Daily inflows to the lagoon, despite the recent cold snap, sit at about 324m3, just over the cer- tificate of operation's limit of 310m3. The village hopes to see the limit raised to at least 350m3 with the new system along with a reduction in inflows after they deal with ongo- ing infiltration issues. As much as 40 per cent of the wastewater going to the lagoon, doesn't originate from the village's water supply. Hauling of wastewater to Smiths Falls was expected to start Wednes- day with a goal of 400 to 450 m3 a day to keep up, if no filter beds were run- ning. "There should be very little hauling," the mayor said. The system will have to be operated manually until at least the end of January, when all of the automated equipment is expected to be installed. Selectra is also responsible for those costs. 'Substantial Comple- tion', the stage when the potential for $1,000 per day in penalties and haul- ing costs ends, may not be until spring, Aecom Con- sulting told the mayor on Monday. The site still needs 18 inches of topsoil plus grass planting. In the meantime, it is to be cov- ered with straw to prevent freezing. Who is responsible for cost over runs, including close to $1 million in addi- tional filter sand, is still to be decided.
