Soaring to New Heights THREE STANLEY CUPS. Four hundred sixteen consecutive sellouts. One impressive comeback. Since William Rockwell "Rocky" Wirtz took charge of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2007, the team has been reinvigorated. ESPN once called them the "worst franchise in sports." Thanks to Wirtz, that image is no more. The visionary Blackhawks chairman continues to build his legacy with the new MB Ice Arena. Opened in late November 2017, the practice facility is dedicated to the players, as well as the community. According to Al MacIsaac, Blackhawks' senior vice president of hockey operations, around 95 percent of programs at MB Ice Arena are youth or adult league-focused. "We're trying to not only create interest in the grassroots of hockey, but we're also trying to connect to our community," says MacIsaac.
