She is a two-time U.S. Olympian. Photos / Katlyn Gambill/Minnesota Wild Minnesota Hockey and the Minnesota Wild teamed up to celebrate girls and women across the state with the second-annual Minnesota Wild Girls Hockey Weekend, Dec. 15-17. The legendary Krissy Wendell, who has three daughters of her own, kicked off the weekend, prac- ticing with the Minnesota Wild on Friday, followed by making the "Let's Play Hockey!" call prior to the puck drop between the Wild and Edmonton Oilers on Saturday. A sold-out group of 300 girls, ages 8-12, took part in dryland training sessions and on-ice clinics at Xcel Energy Center on Saturday and Sunday to cap off the weekend. "That's why we do it, right?" Wendell said. "We do it for the young kids and the exposure that it gives to women's hockey and the growth of the sport. At the end of the day, that's what we're trying to do, we're just trying to grow the sport. "It's wonderful that the Wild are so supportive with what they do, It's wonderful to see the support and it's fun to be out there. At the end of the day we're all hockey players and we have a passion for the sport."
