S I G N & D I G I T A L G R A P H I C S • February 2018 • 15 SpeedPro Imaging Partners with Digital Art Pioneer Denver-based SpeedPro Imaging, a large-format graphics franchise company, announces that one of its franchisees secured a partnership with Laurence Gartel, considered "the father of digital art." The partnership led to three "art cars" Gartel pro- duced for the Miami Beach art show called Art Basel Miami Beach. Eric Lazar, owner of the SpeedPro Chicago Loop franchise is the one who forged the partnership. He says he reached out to Gartel earlier this year to offer print- ing expertise and hands-on support and the art legend accepted, presenting Art Basel Miami Beach as the perfect place to launch the partnership. According to Lazar, SpeedPro Imaging's printing capa- bilities weren't the only reason Gartel was interested. Gartel and Lazar credit Weston, Florida-based SpeedPro Imaging owner Anita Pickens and local 3M-certified installer TJ Kessel for their efforts supple- menting the extensive printing and installation require- ments for the three Gartel Art Cars. The three cars decorated were a Chrysler 300, an Infiniti G37 and a Ford C-Max Hybrid. Piedmont Plastics Recognized for its Sustainability Practices North Carolina-based Piedmont Plastics, a wholesale plastic sheet, rod, tube and film stock shapes distributor, says it earned three specific awards in September and October for its sustainability and business practices. The awards included the Education Circle of Champions Award from the International Association of Plastics Distribution, the IAPD's Environmental Excellence Award and the Sustainability Recognition Award from the SGIA. According to the company, the awards show its dedication to the environment and education in the plastics industry. Some of the initiatives undertaken by the company include the formation of a Green Team, a company-wide team focused on finding ways to reduce waste and energy use. Piedmont also has Natural Solutions, a plastic product made with recycled content, and the Plastics Reclamation Program, which allows customers to recycle their used and plastic waste items. Correction A news item appearing in the January issue of SDG misstated the location of the winner of Principal LED's "What's In Your Sign?" contest. The winner of the contest was Capital City Signs of Sacramento, California. Singularly awesome! The new Mimaki UCJV Series are the only 64-inch UV-LED integrated printer- cutters with models offering four-layer printing, white ink, plus in-line cutting capability at a price that allows you to be competitive and more profitable. Utilizing white ink with a 4-layer work flow, the UCJV enables you to easily create stunning transitional panels that "change" with the light source! mimakiusa.com/UCJV 4-LAYER PRINTING ENHANCED BACKLIT 4-LAYER PRINTING FRONTLIT Mimaki_UCJV_H_SDG1217.indd 1 10/25/17 2:24 PM
