Roy Ayers continues to inspire generations of music lovers with his soulful and funky sound. Now in his fourth decade in music Ayers has lost none of his award winning musical talent. Still touring all over the world and acclaimed by the likes of 50 Cent, Erykah Badu, Ice Cube and A Tribe Called Quest. The artist shows no signs of slowing down. Ayer's profound influence on hip hop and r&b can be dated back to the 70's and 80's, with his pioneering fusion of jazz and funk, that is still popular today. This musical legacy has been responsible for tracks by Big Daddy Kane, Common and his 1979 track 'Cola Bottle Baby' was the foundation for Daft Punk's 'Harder Better Faster Stronger' single. So to see this living legend live will be a unbeatable experience. You can catch Ayers live at the Barbican on March the 3rd, with funk based act Nostalgia 77. Get your tickets while they last! GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS: JESHI However, during the ceremony, the Eastcoast singer revealed that at one time last year she found herself homeless. it all began when Blige found herself without a home as she was going through a divorce from her ex-husband Kendu Isaacs. Blige explained further, "When all hell was turning loose in 2016 and I had to file and all of that stuff, I was homeless last year. Jimmy Lovine took me into his Malibu home, him and his beautiful wife Liberty, and I will never forget that." The nine-time Grammy winner broke down towards the end of her speech and, admitted that she had found her strength in God, who she said gave her "...the strength to keep steppin' and keep my head up regardless of what anybody thought about me, regardless of what anybody said about me". "I see myself clear and it's not all pretty, but I accept the beautiful mess that I am because it's an imperfect me, still learning, still growing". The tracks range from ultra-minimal and alternative monotone crooning to ethereal drum-lead songs filled with compact, tightly woven raps, threaded together as hazy ponderings on love and life in the city. Vocal collaborations on the project are slim (with only additional vocals coming from Camelia and Pearl De Luna), but the production credits take in a host of hotly tipped beatmakers. Including Mura Masa, Lauren Auder, Jorrdee, Reign Supreme, Tev'n, Prince85, Camelia, Oeml and OTG.
