TRACK OF THE MONTH: FRICTION 'STINKER' FEAT. RIKO DAN AND TANTRUM DESIRE Forbidden kicks off festival season in the biggest way. If you're looking for the hottest tune since the New Year, look no further than UKF. Friction's 'Stinker' features incredible vocals from Riko Dan, his return to the genre since 'Kingpin' 4 years ago, and Tantrum Desire whom we believe to be responsible for synths and liquid esc sound past the first drop. The build up of the track has an aggression like it's going to war, something we've missed since the Prototypes' 'Levels', 'Pop It Off' and Teddy Killaz's 'Ragga Bomb' remix (if you're looking for a similar sound). The drop sounds like it's been sampled from a squat rave! With largely contrasting heavy bass and high treble waves almost having a conversation with each other. Friction has created a beautiful symphony of filth. Returning to Donington Park on the 6th of May is one of the first festivals on the circuit, Forbidden Forest. From the minds of a team of rave enthusiasts comes this mad day party that goes deep into the woods. Across five stages a beefy line up of top UK talent will hammer out the best in house, techno and bass. For a solid 12 hours, Forbidden Forest hits it hard at Donington Park, a place that's all too used to raves. The space was once the home of the legendary Fantazia raves that we've all seen the video clips from… Forbidden Forest has brought that hedonistic spirit back to this space in its previous editions and has become many's favourite way to kick off the busy festival season. And with names like Solardo, Alan Fitzpatrick, & Hype b2b Hazard fitting the bill it's easy to understand why. NEWS: FORBIDDEN FOREST DROP MASSIVE LINE UP ARTIST OF THE MONTH: LAWSON TAKES THINGS BACK TO BASICS Ralph Lawson revives Back to Basics' Classics in a new album. Kicking off next week the 20/20 Vision boss revisits his past, bringing tracks from the legendary Back To Basics club to a new vinyl series and album. A series of four limited-edition vinyls will be dropped before the whole piece, Back To Basics - Rare Classics lands in April. Old dancefloor fire from Cajmere, Mood II Swing & Neal Howard make the list, compiled by Lawson over two years. Leeds based Back To Basics was a clubbing institution back in its heyday, bringing over Daft Punk, Danny Tenaglia and Derrick Carter in the early days of their careers for mad parties that made it into the history books. The club may have closed its door, but it's legacy lives on. On the collection Lawson said: "The series focuses on highly collectable classic records from the club's long history that paints a true picture of the music played on the dancefloor." 40 ISSUE 106 / 2018 DRUM & BASS PLAYLIST The drum and bass on our playlist this month Sound Control (S.P.Y.
