Residents of Mountain- view Manor, a social housing property in West- port, will be one of three United Counties of Leeds and Grenville properties getting new support from a Housing Case Manager. This proposal, which Westport Mayor Robin Jones announced to the community this week, has been instituted to ease some of the discomfort of residents with the behav- ior of other tenants. The issues have been difficult to resolve without threatening the eviction of either party. The new community engagement strategy at Mountainview and two other locations hopes early conflict resolution and the improvement of coordina- tion and access to services helps solve the issues. The Westport project has multiple partners in the community including Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Addictions and Mental Health, Leeds, Grenville and Lanark Dis- trict Health Unit, Country Roads Community Health By Margaret Brand The Review-Mirror The Township of Rideau Lakes will be spending $2.1 million on roads this year, paid for with a combination of long-term financing, grants and transfers from reserves. The work almost dou- bles last year's $1.1 mil- lion, which still left the township short in their asset management plan's spending requirement. "The expenditure is a significant step forward on our asset management plan. We haven't fully met the requirements due to the magnitude of the dol- lars required," said Mayor Ron Holman. The largest investment this summer will be on the Daytown Road near Delta where five kilometers of hard surfacing will be pul- verized and the base rebuilt. "It was hard surfaced over a decade ago but it never had a proper base," said roads coordinator Thursday, February 22, 2018 Serving North Leeds and area since 1893 Vol. 127, No. 7 $1incl. tax 75 units from 6'x6' to 12'x36' Easy year round access right in Westport 75 units from 6'x6' to 12'x36' Easy year round access right in Westport 75 units from 6'x6' to 12'x36' Easy year round access right in Westport 75 units from 6'x6' to 12'x36' Easy year round access right in Westport Soho's Self Storage Soho's Self Storage Soho's Self Storage Soho's Self Storage Soho's Self Storage 75 units from 6'x6' to 12'x36' Easy year round access right in Westport 43 Bedford St., Westport 613-273-8848 soho@rideau.net Mirror The Review Township almost doubles roads capital spending for 2018 Counties develops new program to improve social housing issues Canada Post Contract No. 40021501 Ambassador Henk van der Zwan (far right) celebrates with Dutch speed skaters Saturday. Fifty-one skaters from the Netherlands participat- ed in a 100K race on Sat- urday morning which also included 22 Canadians and eight U.S. participants. Forty-six completed the 100 laps. Saturday's 100 K race was specially organized for the Dutch visitors who have long-distance skating as part of their culture but haven't had weather cold enough to keep the tradi- tion alive at home. "To keep up the Dutch skating tradition we go to other places," said Nether- lands ambassador Henk van der Zwan The ambassador cited the often anticipated and rarely held 200K Elf Ste- den Tocht, or Eleven City Tour in Frieseland has only been held 11 times since its formal beginnings in 1909. The last event was held in 1997. As part of the opening ceremonies Canada's deep bond with the Netherlands because of WWII was mentioned by speaker after speaker. "They came and made the greatest sacrifice. Because of that there is eternal gratitude felt towards Canada. We keep this alive but it perpetuates itself," said van der Zwan Warm weather could have been an issue for the Portland organizers who if they had held the event on the traditional late January weekend would have had to cancel because of a mid-winter thaw. Luckily the rising tem- peratures last week was followed by freezing tem- peratures overnight Fri- day.
