FIVE PRODUCTS FOR MANAGING & MONITORING WHAT WE EAT & DO W hether you are one of the millions of people who are managing sugar levels, trying to avoid gluten, or simply being proactive in making smarter food choices, the reality is that it's not always easy. Living and eating well doesn't have to be a chore, especially since technology has brought us some incredible products for those living with eating disorders, as well as diabetes. From health-related smartphone apps to handheld devices that do everything for you, there are many products available that can help you monitor everything from the chemical makeup of food and drinks, to wirelessly communicating directly with a medical provider, as well as monitoring glucose levels. Here are five examples of products from some of the leading tech and medical companies, startups, and nonprofits that are making an effort to help educate those living with eating disorders and diabetes. DietSensor www.dietsensor.com A quick scan from the DietSensor App is all it takes to take control of your health regimen. While the function is simple, the DietSensor is a serious tool for those who want or need to take care of their health, weight, and diet, especially those suffering from chronic diseases related to nutrition. The DietSensor is a pocket-sized, Bluetooth connected, molecular sensor called SCiO. It uses an infrared spectroscopy to determine the chemical makeup of food and drink. Yes, liquid too! Once you have input the food you're thinking of consuming, DietSensor does the heavy calculations for you by figuring out what you should have more of, or cut back on. It's all based on your health profile and a very ample food database. Inventor Remy Bonnasse and wife Astrid came up with the idea in 2014 after their nine-year-old daughter was diagnosed with Type-1 Diabetes, and searched for a way to easily track carbs and dose insulin. Using DietSensor is as easy as holding the small scanner over the food and clicking the button. DietSensor reports back with nutritional value of the scanned food source based on its stored database.
