One of the many things I learned from Martha is that she knows how to balance her food. She eats healthy during the day so she can indulge a little more when she goes out at night. She is always trying new restaurants and new food prepared by her chef friends. Can you imagine cooking for Martha Stewart? Of course, you want to impress her so you are probably cooking and baking all your favorites and sending it out from the kitchen with your compliments She would probably weigh 300 pounds if she ate everything sent her way. But she knows how to balance it all and her equation of eating less during the day and exercise keep her fit and trim. HER PERSONAL INTEREST IN MY HEALTH Not only is Martha conscious about staying healthy, she wants those around her to be healthy too. I thought of that as the bright side when she nagged me about my weight. I told myself often that she meant well and cared about me when the topic came up. Working in television has always had its ups for me. But if there is one drawback it's the crazy hours, and in turn, eating quick bad meals on the run. Of course, there were the times I was pregnant and I would joke that some of us are eating for two. "I'm so hungry I'm eating for a family of 10. " Except it often wasn't just a joke but the truth. And being pregnant with six kids over the years, I think that equates to eating for 60 people! The weight was super easy to put on, and a lot harder to get rid of. It was so difficult in fact that I almost doubled my wedding weight. Martha definitely noticed and let me know about it. One time, we were in her office talking about programming ideas and she asked me why I was so fat. In fairness to Martha, she didn't say it in a mean way. She didn't say it condescending, or off-putting. She said it like she wanted to understand so she could help. I was not offended at all. I told her the truth that I love food, I love to cook, and I love to eat. It was obvious that my relationship with food was much different than hers, even though it sounded the same. While I didn't binge on sweets or snacks, I simply ate too much breakfast, lunch and dinner, which was something she didn't. As a mom of six children, I often found myself eating what my kids didn't finish because we could not waste my Martha Stewart inspired dinners. The result of her being concerned for my health prompted her to have the kitchen staff make me an extra green drink when they were preparing hers. I was also subject to the same healthy breakfast that she had. If I had a staff who could make it for me all of the time, it would be a lot easier to control my weight and health, but I don't. The fact is however, Martha doesn't either. Yes, she probably has more help than I do, or many of us do, but if you're determined you can do it just like her. She taught me that one needs to plan ahead, and prep healthy snacks or meals. That is the key that has helped me ever since. Martha had me doing lots of things together with her. One time we even went on a cleanse together. If I remember correctly, we drank a powdered chocolate or vanilla drink throughout the day and 32 DiGEST THIS
