50 ISSUE 107 / 2018 INDIE The Reading and Leeds Festivals are known as the ultimate rock festivals in the UK. For 2018 their rock lineup includes legends like Kings Of Leon, Fall Out Boy, Sum 41, The Wombats and plenty more. However, this year rap is taking over the festivals. Kendrick Lamar is one of this year's headliners, in addition to UK rappers like Skepta, Kojo Funds and the rising star J Hus. The new American rap scene will also see Lil Pump and Playboi Carti playing at the festivals. So where's the rock in all this? That's the question a lot of regulars are asking, this new lineup has left many disappointed. Many rock fans took to social media to voice their discontent "Who remembers when Reading and Leeds fest was a rock festival. Only Kings Of Leon there. What a sell out...still be going on the Sunday for Kings Of Leon though...who is Kendrick Lamar?" said Matt Lockwood on Twitter. But if you would still like to go the Reading and Leeds Festivals this year on 24th to 26th of August, tickets are still available, make sure you book them while they last! NEWS: READING & LEEDS FESTIVAL LINEUP PISSES OFF ROCK FANS ALBUM OF THE MONTH: BRMC BRMC unleash their first album in five years, the brilliantly brooding Wrong Crea- tures. Since their first self-titled album was released back in 2001, the Californian alternative rock group have built a steady and reliable reputation for making noisy, dark, sexy music, which has now become a perfected sound on their latest release. With its announcement back in September 2017, the band released their first single off the album, 'Little Thing Gone Wild', a chaotic, driving track with Peter Hayes' unmistakable vocals echoing the sentiment of both the song and album title. This animalistic theme runs throughout the album. Their second single 'Haunt' displays Hayes' slow growling sensuality, while other album tracks 'Spook', 'King of Bones' and 'Question of Faith' reiterate a clear gothic theme that takes hold of this album, speaking on subjects of death, love and religion. BRMC have perfected their ability to create an album so wholly complete in its range of emotion-building sounds that you can experience something sensationally new and entirely wonderful with each track. TRACK OF THE MONTH: MATT GRESHAM With a powerful, yet soft and melodic voice, it's no surprise that singer-songwriter, Matt Gresham, got so far on Australian X-factor back in 2013. Going from strength to strength ever since, Gresham is back with his new single, 'Home'. A moving song that tells the story of getting out of something, where you no longer feel comfortable, to find a place you really belong. The mix of gentle guitar, enchanting piano, positive back-beat and of course Matt's brilliant voice makes this song easily comparable to bands like Mumford and Sons. Though the lyrics to the single itself are quite sad and thought-provoking, the ultimate message is a happy one. This is assisted by an upbeat feel-good chorus, creating a wonderful bitter-sweet song you won't be able to get out of your head.
