The facility hosts the typical public skate and stick- and-puck sessions, as well as a weekly women's hockey clinic and learn-to-play hockey programs. The arena alternates hosting an adult in-house hockey league with the Las Vegas Ice Center. Every day the arena's buzzing from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sometimes staff put down a 20-foot projector screen over one of the rinks and host a public skate where people can watch events like Golden Knights games or the Olympics opening ceremony. Rolling the Dice The City National Arena hopes to hold watch parties more frequently next season. They're also working out the details to host a citywide NHL learn- to-play program. While the Golden Knights already have their own gym complete with a 40-yard running track and state-of-the-art equipment, a public gym is also in the works to open in the next few years. Patterson is excited for the future of the rink. He says its events are only going to grow. The support of the Las Vegas community of the arena and the Golden Knights continues to surprise him. "If anyone's ever in Las Vegas and wants to do something different than what's normal Las Vegas, come check out the rink. It's a place where even if you aren't going to skate, there's still a lot to do and see here," Patterson says. "Try to get to a game. Because the atmosphere in T-Mobile Arena and even here at the McKenzie River Pizza when the games are on, it's a playoff-like atmosphere. Me personally, I was at the L.A. Kings game [when they won their] sixth Stanley Cup in 2012, and games at the T-Mobile arena come close to that atmosphere." J PUBLIC NON-PUBLIC
