Loadtap captures locations, with a driver's permission, based on cell tower signals. During the past eight months, Loadtap has been working closely with carrier and 3PL advisers to de- velop the predictive freight-matching platform that will give 3PLs and freight brokers visibility to capacity days in advance of it becoming avail- able in their networks. Loadtap uses transportation man- agement soware system integrations to capture service requirements and other load details to share automati- cally with carriers. As part of the freight-matching process, Loadtap sends a text message to the driver/carrier to get permission to obtain their location data. For additional privacy, Load- tap also is developing integra- tions with electronic logging device providers to suspend all driver communications and tracking during their off-duty periods. Once a match is found and the carrier is dispatched on a load, the system can deter- mine where and when the carrier will become available to begin searching for the next load. Matching results and capacity predictions improve over time as more data is added from carriers in a 3PL's network. The interface's simplicity masks the complex algorithms behind the scenes. "We are focused on solving prob- lems and do not need to make sexy interfaces," Sandhu said. Small and mid-size trucking 3PLs might compete with larger competitors by purchasing and exchanging future capacity with their peers.
