The Matlocks Take The Day Wayne and Kristen Matlock take first in Pro UTV FI and NA Classes By Dan Sanchez Photos by Get Some Photo From a large crowd of 23 competitors, Wayne Matlock struggled with the dust and a beaten-up course to get back to his winning ways in the PRO UTV FI class. In the same day, Kristen Matlock also managed to cut through tough competition to win the PRO UTV NA class, making it a perfect SCORE San Felipe 250 for the both of them. “We’ve been waiting for this one for a while,” said Wayne Matlock. “We had a couple problems; a belt and flat tire we had to change. Our guys in the shop prepping these cars worked super hard and Kris (Kristen Matlock) and I have a put a lot of work into it and it’s paid off.” “We said if we both got first we would do something to celebrate in each of our classes,” said Kristen Matlock. “Pretty much everything was flawless except we had to pull over for a cactus in my leg. I got three pieces of cactus and there was just no way to keep going. I tried but I couldn’t do it.” The Matlocks celebrated the victories in their respective classes, and their Polaris RZR XP4 Turbo and Polaris RZR XP4 1000 UTVs that performed extremely well in the Baja terrain. The rest of the competition followed closely behind them. Finishing second in Pro UTV FI was Scott Sappington, driving for DOR Cory Sappington, and Jason Flanders in their number 2904 Can-Am Maverick X3. Following Kristen Matlock in the Pro UTV NA class, was Paul Champion and Travis Casteel who came in second place, followed by the number 1955 Polaris RZR of (Kaden Wells DOR) driven by Travis Wells, drivers Jesus Gutierrez and Rory L’Hommedieu. In the Pro UTV Unlimited class, the Mexican team of Jesus Menzez with Francisco Pimentel, Antonio Ferla, Rodrigo Ferla, and Jesus Mendez finished first in their Cam-Am X3 XRS. Sportsman Sock UTV was won by Torrey Rush with Clint Peterson, both from Gillette, Wyoming, in the number 3975 Yamaha YXZ 1000.
