Polaris Unleashes A Beast Polaris’ New RZR XP Turbo S May Be A Game Changer For UTV Racers And Enthusiasts By JD Sanchez The launch of the 2018 Polaris RZR XP Turbo S showcases Polaris’ continuous growth in vehicle capability from its Baja racing experience. The new RZR XP Turbo S is designed to be an off-road, all-terrain, authoritarian vehicle that has been completely resigned and re-engineered from top to bottom. Essentially the side-by-side is built to be bigger and tougher, coupled with the company’s DYNAMIX™ Active Suspension system and a reconstructed cockpit. “We set out to create the most capable and aggressive side-by-side in the industry, and without a doubt, we accomplished that with RZR XP Turbo S,” said Chris Musso, president of Off-Road Vehicles, Polaris. “This machine raises the bar for the industry. The sheer size of the machine and its significant performance upgrades will have even the most passive drivers attacking terrain with confidence.” Size is the first thing that’s noticeable on this side by side. It has a 72-inch wide stance and a reinforced chassis. Polaris engineers also added bigger and stronger axels to a new isolated front drive that features three times higher impact strength. The vehicle’s Roll Over Protection Structure (ROPS) is also designed to handle more extreme forces, as well as the vehicle’s control arms, trailing arms, and radius rods. Drivers will appreciate the 16-inches of ground clearance and the use of all new 32-inch diameter Coyote 8-ply tires that are designed to be 249 percent more resistant to punctures. For Baja type terrain, that means the vehicle is capable of smashing through even the toughest obstacles with ease and more agility. Adding to the RZR XP Turbo S’s toughness is the DYNAMIX Active Suspension system that automatically provides high-speed performance and low-speed comfort. The RZR XP Turbo S’ front suspension features a high-clearance Dual A-arm with stabilizer bar and 24.8” usable travel (19-inches of wheel travel). The rear is a Trailing Arm suspension with stabilizer bar and 24.8-inches of usable travel (21-inches of wheel travel). Polaris gave the RZR XP Turbo S a total of 25-inches of useable travel before bottoming out on the heavy-duty skid plate, allowing the vehicle to take more extreme off-road terrain hits. When it comes to performance the RZR XP Turbo S now provides 25 percent more assist in its power steering. According to Polaris, this allows the driver to focus on maneuvering through the terrain more smoothly, even at a full speed. Reaching top speed is easy with a 925cc ProStar Turbo H.O. 4-Stroke DOHC twin-cylinder, turbocharged engine. Featuring electronic fuel injection, the engine produces 168 horsepower and uses a redesigned clutch that features greater air flow and decreased belt temperatures. The drive system includes an Isolated Xtreme Performance True On-Demand AWD/2WD and an automatic PVT P/R/N/L/H final drive transmission. Inside, the RZR XP Turbo S features an improved driving position in a redesigned cockpit that features a four-point harness, premium flat-bottom SPARCO® steering wheel, and a new instrument cluster with a seven-inch RIDE COMMAND™ glove-touch display on the center dash. Bolstered bucket seats with seat sliders, SubZero 4-point harness, and premium seat covers provide greater support and comfort with added adjustability. An aluminum roof, a low profile ROPS, and premium panels featuring LED lighting packages come standard on the RZR XP Turbo S. Other standard features include a rear wired camera, pre-wired for the front camera, DYNAMIX Control System with selectable modes, a Pre-Cut Switchbank, and premium automotive-grade painted front and rear Fascias. Available in Indy Red and Polaris Blue, this bigger and more powerful side-by-side will definitely welcome drivers to challenge the RZR XP Turbo S through the Baja terrain. SJ
