Redshirt freshman
defensive backs might
be mainstays for years
to come

enneth Major could have played last season.
Purdue mulled it over, thinking the rookie cornerback
might have given the Boilermakers a reserve to take the
pressure off starters Da'Wan Hunte and Josh Okonye.
But there was the hamstring issue.
And there was the maturity issue.
Both served to keep the 6-foot, 195-pounder from playing in
Year 1. He expects — and Purdue hopes — there will be no such
hindrances in Year 2.
He's glad for that, because making it through his redshirt
year, while dealing with an annoying injury and adjusting to col-
lege life, was difficult.
"A lot of times, I wanted to go home," said Major, a Hopkins-
ville, Ky., native. "Thankfully for my dad, my mom, they just
stayed on me, (saying) 'You can't come home. There's noth-
ing here.' It's a small town. There are better opportunities
up here."
