JUNE 2018 THE SHOP 25 "Our shop is very quality-driven, and the only way to accomplish what we do here is when we get it done ourselves," Alexander says. "We do it more efficiently, everything is smoother and work gets done faster when done in-house." Alexander's favorite build is a custom Chevrolet C10 pickup known as Tiffany, which he designed to be one of the most extreme C10s ever built. The twin-turbo- charged, LS-powered green machine fea- tures a blend of patina and cutting-edge fabrication and looks like it would be right at home in a Hot Wheels box. Alexander says he had complete freedom to do whatever he wanted to the truck, and all of the CCS crew members con- tributed to the final design. The mash-up of ideas resulted in a cool concept that truly stands out. NO DRAMA Such projects caught the attention of Velocity Channel, a Discovery Commu- nications network, and in 2017 landed Alexander and his crew a show on the net- work. Speed is the New Black was the second most-watched program for males 18-34 during its first season and is returning in 2018. The show focuses on each build's per- formance and potential, rather than the drama that normally transpires on reality television. Speed is the New Black empha- sizes real customers that want to drive real performance cars. "I wanted everyone to see that the vehi- cles on our show aren't like those on any other reality show," Alexander says. "You should be able to take a build from our shop out on a track or on the street and Based in St. Louis, CCS was started back in 2006 by owner Noah Alexan- der and his partner Nick Leidenfrost with the intention of creating custom vehicles that were more than just show- pieces. The shop's unique approach was evident in the premiere season of "Speed is the New Black," which was highlighted by the build of a 1966 Chevrolet C10 named "Tiffany." The twin-turbocharged pickup features a 346-ci LS1 producing upwards of 1,000 hp.
