16 ■ THE WOLFPACKER BY MATT CARTER NC State's 2019 football recruiting class stands at three after adding a pair of commitments during the months of March and April. Wilmington (N.C.) Hoggard wide receiver Chris Toudle admit- ted, while chuckling, that he grew up a UNC fan. He also is quick to add that he is going to have to get rid of all the blue in his room now because he is headed to NC State after verbally committing to the Wolfpack March 9. Toudle (6-3, 215 pounds) also had offers from Maryland, Wake Forest and Appalachian State. "I felt like it was really right for me," Toudle said. "I prayed to God about it, and He gave me all the answers. I thought it was to my best interest for my future education and career that I decide to go to NC State and play football there. "My family supported it. They were right behind me." Toudle said that NC State's recruiting approach quickly opened his eyes to what the Wolfpack was offering him. "They were intent on helping me get on the right path to what I want to do in my life educationally and at the same time being a big-time football player in the ACC," Toudle noted. He caught 32 passes for 556 yards and 11 touchdowns as a ju- nior, while helping Hoggard go 13-1 and reach the semifinals of the North Carolina 4A playoffs, before losing in overtime to Lau- rinburg (N.C.) Scotland County High. In that game, Toudle caught seven passes for 156 yards and four touchdowns. Toudle also plays basketball and participates in track. He runs the 100-meter dash and 400-meter relay, while also doing the long jump and high jump. In hoops, he averaged 8.2 points and 7.9 re- bounds per game as a junior. Junior defensive back Jalen Frazier from Hough High in Corne- lius, N.C., had his grandmother, parents, aunt and niece all come to Raleigh on his unofficial visit to NC State April 11. He knew he was going to verbally commit to the Wolfpack and turned it into a family celebration. Frazier didn't tell the NC State coaches about his plan, but head coach Dave Doeren and assistant coaches George Barlow and Ed- die Faulkner have all been recruiting him in earnest since offering Jan. 27. "I had already been up here a couple of times," Frazier said. "I knew where I wanted to go in my heart, so why wait? I had built a really strong relationship with the staff. "When I was at other schools, it was just really different with the staff." The Wolfpack targeted the 5-10, 180-pound Frazier for the nickel position in its 4-2-5 defensive scheme. "Nickel is like the biggest role on the field, so for him to want me to take on that position means a lot to me," Frazier said. "They believe in my abilities." Frazier blew up in the last year. He made the move from Denver (N.C.) East Lincoln High to Hough for his junior campaign, and recalled a time when Coastal Carolina was his lone offer. NC State offered Jan. 27 when he came for a junior day visit. Duke, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina and West Virginia all offered over the last year. Frazier ultimately picked NC State over Duke and Michigan. He had unofficially visited the Blue Devils, but never made a trip to check out the Wolverines. Frazier hopes to study business or engineering. Rivals.com ranks Frazier as the No. 30 player in North Carolina in the class of 2019. He had 98 tackles, five tackles for loss, two sacks and one interception — which he returned 32 yards for a touchdown — in his first season at Hough High.
