JUNE/JULY 2018 THE WOLVERINE 13   INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS MICHIGAN'S TOP PERFORMERS Softball freshman pitcher Meghan Beaubien: She tossed her third no-hitter of the season in an 8-0 shutout of Maryland April 22, falling just one walk shy of a perfect game. Beaubien struck out 11 batters in the process, helping complete a three-game series sweep of the Terrapins. The feat marked a program-record sixth no-hitter of the season for the Wolver- ines, with the freshman laying claim to half of them — her other two came against Georgia State Feb. 9 and against Purdue March 30. Baseball freshman outfielder Jesse Franklin: On April 23, he was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for a second week in a row after help- ing lead the Wolverines to a three-game sweep of Penn State April 20-22. Through- out the three victories against the Nittany Lions, Franklin racked up a .385 batting aver- age and a .923 slugging percentage, while cranking a double and two home runs. In addition, the rookie also recorded at least one hit in all three games, and finished with seven RBI and seven runs scored. Women's track and field senior middle-distance runner Jamie Morrissey: At the Cardinal Classic on Stanford's campus April 21, she recorded a 4:11.48 in the invitational section of the 1,500 meters, finishing less than a second behind the Cardinal's Vanessa Fraser. The time was a new career-best for Morrissey, shattering her previous best of 4:17.57 by over six seconds. With the performance, the senior moved up to No. 3 on the all-time Michigan performers list, trailing only Shannon Osika and Lindsey Gallo for the fastest ever time by a Wolverine in the event. Men's golf senior Kyle Mueller: On May 1, he was tabbed as an All-Big Ten first-team selection for the third straight season, joining Michael Harris (1997-2000) as the only other Wolverine to earn first-team all-league honors three times in a career. However, he's the first Maize and Blue golfer to ever accumulate All-Big Ten accolades in four different years, after he was tabbed to the league's second team as a freshman. Mueller's 70.32 scoring average this season broke his own U-M record for the third straight year, en route to capturing the Lee Bolstad Award for the conference's lowest average. Men's lacrosse senior midfielder Chase Young: He was selected by the Denver Outlaws with the eighth pick of the fourth round (35th overall) in the April 18 Major League La- crosse Draft, becoming just the third Wolver- ine ever taken, and the highest ever (Mikie Schlosser at 54th overall in 2017 was the previous high). Young spent the first three and a half seasons at Michigan as a defen- sive midfielder, before making the switch to the offensive side this past March. He was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2015, and his 81 career ground balls rank fifth in U-M history. — Austin Fox Call to order (919) 688-0218 or visit our online store TheWolverineOnDemand.com Michigan Fan Favorites Single-Sided Banner Item # 1302 Size: 28"x40" $24.95 + $4 S&H Michigan Mickey Banners & Flags 2-Sided Garden Flag Item # 1301 Size: 12.5" x 18" $14.95 + $2 S&H (Item #1300 — Reg. $229.95) MICHIGAN BULOVA WATCH • Rectangular grey dial with stick markers • Sweeping "seconds" hand • Silver-tone case • Steel bracelet • Water resistant to 100 feet • Packaged in an elegant display box • Large blue Block M logo • Covered by Bulova 3 year limited warranty • Limited quantity available $ 199 95 (FREE S&H) Wolverine RFID Wallets $19.95 + FREE S&H (Reg. $29.95) Choice of Bi-fold or Tri-fold design RFID ("Radio Frequency Identification") Technology provides additional protection to keep your card information safe from scanners #1444 BiFold #1445 TriFold
