Plus, the 11‑0 record the team got off to in Big Ten play represented its best start to league action since 2008. Some of the highlights of the streak included consecutive shutouts over Northwestern April 7, marking the first time U‑M had blanked a confer‑ ence opponent in two straight games since 2006. Another major highlight occurred in the 19th victory of the stretch, when Michigan defeated Penn State on a walk‑off squeeze bunt in the bottom of the 11th inning. Heading into the May 17‑19 series at Purdue — the final of the regular season — the Wolverines were 32‑16 overall and 15‑5 in the Big Ten to rank second in the league, one game behind league leader Minnesota. The conference tournament runs May 23‑27 in Omaha, Neb. MEN'S GOLF Freshman Charlie Pilon opened the April 27‑29 Big Ten Championships with four birdies over his final six holes to tally a career‑best 3‑under‑par 67, tying him with two others atop the leader‑ board after day one … Two U‑M golf‑ ers posted career highs on day two — sophomore Brent Ito with a 3‑under 67 and freshman Henry Spring with a 1‑under 69 … Spring led the way in the final standings with a 10th‑place show‑ ing, while U‑M finished sixth with an 864 team total … On May 2, senior Kyle Mueller earned an individual invita‑ tion to compete in the NCAA Regional May 14‑16 in Columbus, Ohio. WOMEN'S GOLF Michigan carded an 883 at the Big Ten Championships April 20‑22 to fin‑ ish in seventh place … Senior Kathy Lim and junior Elodie Van Dievoet each recorded 218 three‑round totals to tie for 19th. MEN'S GYMNASTICS 15-9 OVERALL, 2-2 BIG TEN Michigan placed fourth out of six teams (400.590 score) in qualifying ses‑ sion one of the NCAA Championships April 20 in Chicago in its final team competition of the season … Michi‑ gan's season came to an end April 21 at the Individual Event Finals portion of the NCAA Championships, where fresh‑ man Jacob Moore tied for an NCAA runner‑up finish on floor exercise with a 14.366, marking the highest score for a Wolverine in that event since 1992 … Freshman Cameron Bock grabbed his first All‑America citation by placing 10th in the all‑around (81.032) and fifth on parallel bars (14.400) … Junior Ryan Dunning checked in at third on the still rings (13.900), giving U‑M three All‑ Americans for the first time since 2016. MEN'S LACROSSE 8-6 OVERALL, 1-4 BIG TEN Junior midfielder Brent Noseworthy racked up four goals in a 10‑9 loss to No. 7 Johns Hopkins April 21, setting a new school record for goals in a season with 39 … He then set the program re‑ cord for points in a campaign with 48, when he tallied three in a 10‑9 victory at No. 14 Penn State April 28 in the regular‑ season finale … On May 1, Noseworthy became the first All‑Big Ten first‑team honoree in school history. WOMEN'S LACROSSE 7-10 OVERALL, 2-4 BIG TEN Freshman midfielder Maggie Kane's draw control and goal as time expired gave U‑M a thrilling 12‑11 victory at No. 16 Penn State April 28 in the reg‑ ular‑season finale … Michigan, which trailed 6‑0 early in the game, actually scored twice in the game's final six sec‑ onds for the win … Sophomore mid‑ fielder Molly Garrett was named to the All‑Big Ten team May 2. ROWING Michigan closed out its regular season April 29 by winning all five races against Louisville … U‑M checked in at No. 6 in the May 9 edition of the CRCA/US Rowing Coaches poll … The Wolver‑ ines earned a second‑place finish out of eight teams at the Big Ten Champion‑ ships May 13 in Indianapolis, marking the fifth time in the past six seasons it has finished as the runner‑up … The result also signified the 12th consecu‑ tive season that U‑M finished among the top three in the league. SOFTBALL 43-11 OVERALL, 18-3 BIG TEN Michigan's 8‑0, five‑inning shutout of Ohio State May 5 clinched the out‑ right Big Ten regular‑season title, mark‑ ing the 20th in school history and the 10th league championship in the last 11 years for the program … The May 8 USA Today/NFCA Coaches poll placed U‑M at No. 16 … On May 9, freshman pitcher Meghan Beaubien was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year and the league's Freshman of the Year after she won a school‑record 32 games … Head coach Carol Hutchins claimed her 17th Big Ten Coach of the Year award the The softball team went 18-3 in Big Ten play during the regular season to claim the program's 10th league crown in the last 11 years.
