Smith will lead the two business units, which sell fries and other potato products to foodservice distributors and restaurant operators and the company's retail line of products including Alexia, Grown in Idaho, licensed brands and private label items to grocers and other retailers. Smith has been with Lamb Weston for more than 10 years. His current responsibilities as senior vice president of growth and strategy, as well as his previous role leading the retail business unit as vice president and general manager, should enable a seamless transition of the foodservice and retail businesses. In his new role, Smith succeeds Rod Hepponstall, who is leaving the company to become CEO of a publicly traded food company outside the potato category. Simplot CEO Whitacre to Retire Bill Whitacre, CEO of the J.R. Simplot Company, has announced his retirement. Whitacre served as the company's sixth CEO since founder Jack Simplot stepped down in 1973. Whitacre joined Simplot in March 2000 and was named CEO in 2009. As CEO, Whitacre has expanded the company's international footprint and enhanced its position with communities, industries, customers and employees. Whitacre has overseen an increase in revenues from approximately $4.5 to $6 billion. Whitacre's retirement date is Aug. 31. The company expects to select its next CEO from internal candidates. AGCO Brands Win Red Dot Design Awards AGCO has been awarded two Red Dot Design Awards for its IDEAL combine and Valtra A4 Series tractors. The Red Dot Design competition is one of the most respected design competitions in the world. More than 6,300 submissions from 59 countries entered this year's contest. The IDEAL is a newly developed combine that unites new designs and cutting-edge technologies to empower farmers across the world to be more productive. Valtra's fourth-generation A Series features a new technical design, cab design and multiple chassis options. Valtra has been inspired by the basic principles of Scandinavian design, reflected in the clear lines of the exterior of its tractors. In addition, Valtra's design work puts a strong emphasis on usability, ergonomics, safety, durability, serviceability and productivity of the tractor.
