I've had incidences where both men and women have talked over me to discuss their jobs with "a man in charge, who knows what he's doing." My usual answer to that is ''Well, you can talk to me,'' whilst awkwardly star- ing at them. But I've also experienced great interest in me being the only female installer on jobs. At the end of the day though, it's all about how you carry yourself and how you talk with others. Q: What drives you to stay in the industry? A: I wouldn't say what drives me to stay, but what drives me to be. I choose to be in an industry that I feel I truly belong in, not only keeping me motivated, wanting to make any contribution to our growth as a recognized trade, but also making the journey overseas to become a permanent resident of United States for my own personal reasons. Q: How do you see the role of women evolving in the industry? A: We are already there, are we not? Women run successful businesses, women are behind the scenes, women do strive to push this industry further. Maybe it's about stepping forward more, realizing our actual worth, hearing our voices and being recog- nised and appreciated where credit is due. But, at the end of the day, we already know our worth and have been evolving far quick- er than what we are given credit for. Q: Do you have any advice for other female installers looking to get into the wrap business? A: I would advise any woman with the right attitude getting into the wrap business—do not sell yourself short. Just because you are female, doesn't mean you are worth less than the guy wanting to do the same. You will have better attributes in some areas, but learn everything you can and learn things outside of your comfort zone and get your hands dirty. This is also what has driven me to stay in this industry—the true friends I have found within it. go beyond vinyl T M innovation in graphic fi lm products innovation in graphic fi lm products Protect your brand with a premium wrap.
