52 ISSUE 109 / 2018 INDIE Rock Werchter is coming up this July and this year's acts are bigger than ever Taking place from the 5th to the 8th of July this year in Festivalpark, Werchter, a small village near Leuven in Belgium. The rock music festival has already added some huge names, from the Gorillaz, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, Snow Patrol, Ben Howard, MGMT and James Bay. The music event will also host some boss girl power too with Naaz, First Aid Kit, Sigrid and Susanne Sundfor. Lucky for us Werchter-obsessed guys, at the end of March the festival's set times were released which is rare but very useful . So you can plan your weekend already with no shocking clash reveals after paying a ridiculous price for a programme. Day tickets for this year's Rock Werchter festival are all sold out but combo tickets for the whole fest (the ones you really want) are still available. So grab them while they last! NEWS: THE ROCK WERCHTER 2018 LINEUP JUST DROPPED! ALBUM OF THE MONTH: CABBAGE Releasing their debut album Nihilistic Glamour Shots, the disgustingly punk five- piece, Cabbage hit out hard in this political climate. With a DIY-aesthetic, the group's latest release draws upon the rippling anarchic tones of GG Allin. Album opener, 'Preach to The Converted' has a descending intro that almost bears a resemblance to Blur's 'Country House' however, none of the adorable, boy-charm is present and the violent inspiration bleeds through. The purposefully disjointed mumble of wickedness found in each track makes not too a dramatic departure from their previous compilation of EPs. Nods Towards The Fall and Fat White Family slither throughout the album as they chant, "How long 'til we take responsibility" throughout 'Arms of Pleonexia'. The rapid bass lines and treacherous beats make this album a surprisingly pleasant listen, despite the hard-hitting topics and politically charged themes leaving an immediately revolting taste. The Manchester band spew out a bastardised creation that, although can be difficult to listen to at times, it is still one of the most relevant albums of 2018 so far. TRACK OF THE MONTH: PALE WAVES Manchester's goth-pop rockers are ready to steal the limelight and break into the charts with their first ever EP titled The Things I Never Said released by prestigious indie label Dirty Hit. After coming 5th in the BBC Music's Sound of 2018 poll, the four-piece band have gone from strength to strength. Selling out their UK Tour, supporting indie rock bands like The1975 in America and receiving massive support from the likes of NME and winning their first 'Under The Radar' award. Pale Waves claim to be heavily influenced by 80's and this can definitely be heard on breakout single 'There's A Honey' and their latest electric singles 'The Tide' and 'Heavenly'.
