56 ISSUE 109 / 2018 REGGAE TRACK OF THE MONTH: AMINIDI K. FRO$T, TESSELLATED & VALLEYZ - 'PINE & GINGER' Grammy-winning artist Buju Banton may still be serving his nine-year US prison sentence but he's already planning his first tour after his upcoming release, which is scheduled for December 8th this year. Guestlist has fallen in love with 'Pine & Ginger', an addictive dancehall tune straight from the heart of Jamaica. The first few minutes of the video portray the beauty of Jamaica with sunny beaches, clear waters and breathtaking scenery, as LA singer Aminidi K. Fro$t sensual vocals in the backdrop add a whole new flavour to the track. The artist sings, "Me ah drink pine and ginger, him wah me fi wine, pon di ting and me nuh play that..." It is clear from the get-go this is going to be a banger. Produced by Valleyz and accompanied by the smooth flows of Kingston born MC Tessellated. The trio has created a dancehall tune that pushes the limits of dancehall with its synth rhythms, infectious beat and pop sound that still manages to effortlessly hook fans from the oldest to the youngest. Making this refreshing tune, the perfect summer jam for 2018. The first dates confirmed for the renowned Jamaican singer's Long Walk To Freedom Tour are March 30th in Nassau, Bahamas and April 22nd in Trinidad, with more international shows to come. "There is quite a few… a lot, a lot!" Banton's publicist Ronnie Tomlinson told Whatz Up NY. "As you can imagine the promoters are reaching out, contacting, wanting to have that opportunity to have Buju in their country." According to Caribbean World Entertainment, sources indicate that Banton has been "continuously writing while incarcerated." Sure enough, Tomlinson also mentions that the dancehall and reggae artist known for songs like 'Make My Day' and 'Champion' is "definitely in that creative spirit," implying that new material may be on the way. NEWS: BUJU BANTON PLANS FIRST TOUR AFTER 9-YEAR PRISON SENTENCE ALBUM OF THE MONTH: NEW TOWN KINGS New Town Kings drop their third studio album Reach Out and it's a fastpaced tropical wonder. Reach Out takes the listener on a carefully constructed journey filled with breezy tunes, fresh sounds and captivating vocals. Standout tracks 'Borderline' and 'Reach Out' pull you in effortlessly with their politically savvy messages and up tempo bass, while the band's UK inspired ska can be heard clearly in 'Long Long Road', a more sentimental track packed full of smooth harmonies and upbeat horns. Keeping in tune with the band's modern take on reggae, the following song 'Fine Fine Fine' takes on a much lighter approach, perfect for those lazy summer days with its simple but catchy melody. All in All, Reach Out manages to bring a fresh sound to the reggae scene with its powerful rhythms and moving anthems.
