W O M E N ' S B A S K E T B A L L R E C R U I T I N G Height And Versatility Signee will bring different look to Purdue BY KYLE CHARTERS KCharters@GoldandBlack.com W hen Bridget Perry joins Purdue next season, she'll add a dose of something the Boilermakers currently don't have. Purdue's top five guards, each of whom will be back next season, are 6-foot and shorter. And starters Courtney Moses and KK Houser stand only 5-6, eight inches shorter than Perry, a Boilermaker commitment and senior at Roncalli High School in Indianapolis. "We don't have that big guard and I think that's something that we're missing this year," Coach Sharon Versyp said. Perry is averaging a team-high 13.6 points per game for a well-balanced Roncalli team, which won nine of its first 10 games this season and was ranked seventh in the Class 4A poll in midDecember. Perry, one of two signees in the '13 class with guard Ashley Morrissette, might be one of the most versatile players in the state. "I kind of play everything," Perry said. "(Coach April McDivitt) has me at the 3 spot offensively, but a lot of times in the game when teams press us and things, I'll end up bringing the ball up. And sometimes I'll ON BOARD post up if I have a mismatch." 2013 SIGNEES The versatility is intriguing to Name Pos. Ht. Hometown/High School Purdue. But she's tried Name Pos. Ht. Hometown/High School to develop — and continues to Bree Horrocks F 6-4 Buford, Ga./Buford build upon — other parts of her offensive game. "Bridget is just playing free," Versyp said. "She's becoming a more consistent three-point shooter and has a mid-range game, that pull-up that is very important. She's always gotten to the hole, but that 15-foot pull-up I think is an area she's really worked on. She's versatile and can play the 1 through 4, that's really hard in high school for someone to defend that. And she's a lefty, so she's got a lot of good gifts." Because Versyp wants to play Perry on the perimeter at Purdue, the senior knows continuing to make strides in her outside offensive game is critical. And between the AAU season and her final year at Roncalli, she's getting there. "I'm definitely just trying to improve my game as a whole, working on my post game, outside shot, midrange shot, and using different moves and continuing to become a more versatile Bridget Perry player," Perry said.
