So when Liu had the idea to open a gallery at Summer Star Wildlife Sanctuary in Boylston, she plucked it from her dreams and made it reality. Today, Linden Street Gallery occupies its own softly lit corner of Trailhead House, the modern, uber-ecological center of Summer Star, which Liu founded. Spread aroundSurrounding Trailhead House, 45 acres of woodland and meadow opens its arms to visitors four days a week. (e other three days give the animals, which include otters and owls, a chance to be restfully alone in their element.) e gallery fulfills Liu's desire to nourish the connections among humans, art, and nature. e current exhibit, Exploring New England Landscapes: Seasonal Pathways Across Time (showing through August 7), is a selection of artwork by Rockport-area artists curated by the Rockport Art Association & Museum. e paintings, by artists including early-20th-century master Aldro T. Hibbard— founder of the Rockport Art Association— depict the beauty of inland Massachusetts and its hills, dells, farms, and streams. For Liu, facilitating the exhibit also creates a nexus of the most important aspects of her life. "To embrace nature is a dream come true for me," she says.
