Tim Kowalski, Owner, Bio-Kleen I developed my knack for chemicals and how to mix them effectively at the hands of a family friend who was a chem- ical engineer. I went on to major in chemical engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I developed my first industrial cleaner for a local company, Stryker Instruments, which made surgical equipment and supplies. It was called Stryk-It Cleaner, which washed surgical parts. Fresh out of school, I started Bio- Kleen in August 1987. As often happens with successful companies, I got into boat and RV cleaning by chance. My accountant at the time was a boater and traveler. He wasn't happy with the cleaners that were available, so I gave the him some of my products. He liked the products and told me I should take them to market. My first show was when the distributor I was working with at the time offered me booth space at its open house in Brighton, Mich. I signed up over 10 new dealers for the marine/RV/auto product line. I asked them, "OK, I have all this new business, do you want to take on the product line?" And of course, the answer was "yes" and all the current distributors followed suit. I find the best part about being in the industry is to be able to travel around the country in our Toter home living the RV lifestyle with my wife, Tracy, selling Bio-Kleen Products. We enjoy doing Poker Runs, raising money for Make-A-Wish-Foundation and giving charity boat rides! It's the comradery with friends from across the country and spending the day taking these less fortunate kids for rides. RV PRO: Origins July 2018 • RV PRO • 127 Reach more RV Pros!
