Gary Wheeler, Aftermarket Sales, MORryde International "I t's time for a change." That's what Gary Wheeler said to himself after burning out on 24/7 management at a local factory. A few of his friends worked for a small, privately-owned metal fabrication and RV suspension company in the area, so he asked them about supervisor openings. At the time, the only position available was in the maintenance department, but the company's size and tightknit culture appealed to him. After careful thought and prayer, and with zero experience in the RV industry, Wheeler took a chance and joined the MORryde family in 1995. While working in maintenance, Wheeler became intrigued with the metal fabrication side of the business and decided to learn as much as he could about the equipment. He set his sights on a management position, and it wasn't long after that he achieved his goal. Eventually, because of his affable and easy-going nature, Wheeler became one of just a few customer service reps for the company. At first, Wheeler never pictured himself going into sales, but he began to attend RV shows to help out MORryde's then small sales department. He recalls feeling like a "fish out of water" talking with vendors and attendees, but despite that, he realized that he had discovered exactly what he wanted to do. Since then, he has become an award-winning salesman, recently earning the "2018 Customer Choice" trophy at the Burlington RV Open House this past March. "I sincerely owe my success to the owners and management at MORryde," Wheeler says. "I was given a chance in an industry that I had no experience in and had the opportunity to learn about from the ground up. They were patient with me during the learning curve, and although I didn't realize it at first, I found a position that was the best fit for my talents." – As told to RV PRO RV PRO: Origins July 2018 • RV PRO • 41 • Lightweight • Stable entry to and exit from your RV • Stores securely right inside the door • 500 lb weight capacity • Adjustable feet accommodate uneven terrain
