RV PRO: Origins July 2018 • RV PRO • 47 Don Reed, CEO, DealerPRO I traveled to Louisville to the RV Industry Associa- tion show in 1983 and I talked to a manufacturer looking for a franchise in St. Louis. I enjoyed camping and I had 13 acres of property, plus excess acreage at my auto store, so I thought it would be fun to sell RVs. I acquired a Jayco franchise while at the show. I was "Rookie of the Year" my first year as a Jayco dealer. I sold Jayco travel trailers, pop-ups and Class C motorhomes. I wanted to have a profitable RV operation to aug- ment my automotive dealership. A year later, I added Coachmen, bought a Nissan store and added Coleman pop-up campers at that store. My f i r s t i n d u s t r y s h o w w i t h my c u r re nt company, DealerPRO RV Training , was in 2002. I bought a proprietary workshop at RV Dealers Association. We had a full house in attendance for our workshop. We launched our service and parts training company and generated a lot of interest in our training and pro- cesses for RV dealers. It enabled RV dealers to realize greater profits in service and parts. It was an exciting time for our company. Eventually, I became a sought-after speaker for large conventions, including NADA and, of course, RVDA. After speaking for many years at RVDA and NADA conventions, I was contacted by multiple organizations for speaking and training engagements across the U.S., Canada, England, Ireland, Scotland and Poland. I'm most proud of being awarded the Winnebago Circle of Excellence Award for multiple years and receiving the Dealer's Choice Award for being the No. 1 fixed ops training company by auto dealers.
