78 • RV PRO • July 2018 rv-pro.com By Lisa Napell Dicksteen Sponsorships can create name recognition and cement a dealership's reputation in the community, which can lead to potential customers thinking of the dealer when they're ready to purchase. Still, with so many organizations and individuals seeking support, how does a business owner decide which events are worth sponsoring? RV PRO recently put that question to dealerships across the country. Here is what they had to say: Sponsoring Community Events Bill Clark, owner Great Outdoors RV Fulton, N.Y. "We have been the exclusive, official RV dealer of Watkins Glen International Speedway, a long-standing venue on the NASCAR circuit, for the past four years. Their multiple-event schedule provides us with six months of exposure. "This year we are the Title Sponsor of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, a nationally televised race held on the Friday night of this three-day event. We provide trailers for some of their other major events, such as Six Hours at The Glen, the NASCAR Xfinity Series, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup series races, the U.S. Vintage Grand Prix, and the Finger Lakes Wine Festival, which is the largest wine tasting event on the East Coast. "We have track optics, track-side signage, billboards, pole banners throughout the venue, promotional sales space for RVs and accessories, tickets to give away before the event, print and television coverage, hospitality benefits, show car appearances at our dealerships, promotional sales space, and a host of other items. As their exclusive provider of rental RVs, we get a lot of exposure, which really increases our rentals during the season. "We also have a large on-site display of RVs on race weekend, along with space for our 40-foot event trailer, which is stocked with everything someone might want in an RV: toilet paper, exten- sion cords, welcome mats, lawn chairs, generators, hats, etc., for race-goers to buy. We also have technicians on site who can help someone if they need a repair. "During the Xfinity Series, we sponsor a race team in exchange for driver appearances at our DEALER TRENDS: D E A L E R S Members of the RV General Store team are pictured next to the Kyle Busch NASCAR racing car at the 2016 Oklahoma City fall RV show. The dealership has sponsored a car in the O'Reilly Auto Parts 300 Xfinity Series race and is a regular sponsor of school and athletic events in its community.
