THE WOLVERINE 2018 FOOTBALL PREVIEW ■ 169 Kyle Bosch OL 3 D+ Made three starts as a freshman, but appeared in just six games before leaving Michigan for West Virginia. Jake Butt TE 37 A Took home a ton of awards during his Michigan ca- reer and left as the program record-holder for most receptions (138) and yards (1,646) by a tight end. Taco Charlton DE 15 B+ Was a tad inconsistent early on, but was almost un- stoppable as a senior en route to first-team All-Big Ten honors from the coaches and media. David Dawson OL 0 D- Was highly touted coming out of high school. How- ever, he never cracked the starting lineup and only appeared in four games before heading to Iowa State. Reon Dawson CB 0 D Came to Michigan as a project and didn't develop. He medically retired from football, is still in school at U-M in school and on the football staff. Ross Douglas CB 0 D- Moved from defensive back to running back and appeared in just five games before having a suc- cessful run at linebacker at Rutgers. Jaron Dukes WR 0 D- Appeared in just one game at Michigan before medically retiring from football. Chris Fox OL 0 D- Touted as the No. 1 player in Colorado coming out of high school, he was never healthy and ultimately retired from playing. He's still at U-M on the foot- ball staff as a graduate assistant. Ben Gedeon LB 14 B+ Played in 51 games and started 14 at Michigan. He was an All-Big Ten second-team member in 2016 according to the media and was on the coaches third team. Derrick Green RB 7 D+ Was the highest-rated prospect in the class and the only five-star, but never really got on track at Michigan. He finished his college career at TCU and fizzled out there as well. Delano Hill S 26 B While very productive, he never quite reached im- pact-player status. He was an All-Big Ten second- team member in 2016 (coaches). Khalid Hill FB 11 C+ A non-factor at tight end, he found his niche at fullback. He only had 73 career rushing yards, but scored 13 touchdowns. Maurice Hurst Jr. DT 17 A Far outplayed his three-star recruiting ranking, ultimately becoming a consensus All-American as a fifth-year senior. He was U-M's MVP and Defensive Player of the Year in his final season. Da'Mario Jones WR 0 D- Played in just 22 games at U-M before leaving for Bowling Green where his football career came to an end. Patrick Kugler OL 14 C He made the best of his situation, earning All-Big Ten honorable mention last season as Michigan's center. Jourdan Lewis CB 30 A Did it all at Michigan. He's U-M's all-time leader in passes broken up with 45 and was a two-time All- American. He was a Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist before being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Mike McCray LB 26 B+ Was always a bit limited by injuries and a lack of elite athleticism, but he was an integral part of Don Brown's stellar defenses. He was voted a team captain by his teammates and was the co-recipient of the 2017 Robert P. Ufer Bequest, presented to the player who demonstrates the most enthusiasm and love for Michigan. He was also a two-time All- Big Ten honorable mention honoree, coaches and media in 2016 and 2017. Shane Morris QB 2 D The highly touted signal-caller never took the reigns at U-M. He completed 47 of 92 passes (51.1 per- cent) for 434 yards. He never threw a touchdown pass and recorded five interceptions. Henry Poggi TE/FB 17 C- Came to Michigan as a defensive lineman and ended up making 17 starts (four at tight end and 13 at full- back) while in Ann Arbor. As a fifth-year senior, he was the other recipient of the 2017 Robert P. Ufer Bequest. Dan Samuelson OL 0 D- Never saw the field at Michigan and finished his football career at Eastern Michigan. Wyatt Shallman LB 0 D- Came to Michigan as an athlete/fullback and fin- ished as a linebacker. He played in 11 games before transferring to Ohio to finish his football career. De'Veon Smith RB 26 B Was never dynamic, but he was productive. He finished his career with 470 carries for 2,161 yards and 22 touchdowns. He was an All-Big Ten honor- able mention by the coaches and media in 2016 and by the coaches in 2015. Channing Stribling CB 18 B+ Came to Michigan as a three-star safety and left as a lock-down corner. He was an All-Big Ten second team member in 2016 per the coaches and media. Scott Sypniewski LS 0 C Was the rare scholarship long snapper. He ap- peared in 36 games at the position and was solid from start to finish. Dymonte Thomas S 21 C Made 128 tackles with one pick. As a senior in 2016, he was an All-Big Ten honorable mention pick by the coaches and media. Logan Tuley-Tillman OL 0 F Never played a meaningful snap at Michigan and was ultimately kicked out of school after three felony charges. C'sonte York WR 0 F Never played any meaningful snaps at U-M and was kicked out of school after a felony charge stem- ming from a fight in Ann Arbor. Grade Final Grade: C- The 2013 class had a couple of absolute studs in All-Americans Maurice Hurst Jr. and Jourdan Lewis, and several players who re- ceived All-Big Ten honors in Jake Butt, Taco Charlton, Ben Gedeon, Delano Hill, Mike Mc- Cray, De'Veon Smith, Channing Stribling and Dymonte Thomas. On the flip side, a couple of signees were kicked out of school for breaking the law and almost half of the class didn't finish up at U-M. The class also never beat Ohio State and was 1-4 against Michigan State.
