90 ■ THE WOLVERINE 2018 FOOTBALL PREVIEW OFFENSIVE LINE 90 ■ THE WOLVERINE 2018 FOOTBALL PREVIEW OFFENSIVE LINE PLAYER BIOS POSITION COACH Ed Warinner, in his first season as the offensive line mentor for the Wolverines, is entering his 30th year as a college football coach. He has worked on the offensive side of the ball for the last 20 seasons and has spent 16 of them working directly with the line. Warinner joins the program after spending last season as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator at Minnesota, where he helped direct a ground attack that produced 2,153 yards and saw three backs average 4.5 yards per carry or better. Prior to 2017, Warinner coached at Ohio State from 2012-16. He spent his first three seasons there as offensive line coach and was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2015. He was part of a staff that led the team to two College Football Playoff berths, the 2014 national championship and a win over Notre Dame in the 2015 Fiesta Bowl. During his tenure at Ohio State, the Buckeyes broke single-season program records in 11 offensive categories. Before Warinner's time in Columbus, he worked with the offensive line and as a run game coordinator at Notre Dame, where he helped lead the team to two straight bowl appearances. He also held prior positions as either an offensive line coach or offensive coordina- tor at Kansas, Illinois, Air Force and Army. He coached linebackers and the secondary at Michi- gan State in 1985-86, right after he began his coaching career overseeing running backs at Akron in 1984. Warinner was named a finalist for the American Football Coaches Association's National Assistant Coach of the Year award after his season with Kansas in 2009. He was also recognized by FootballScoop as the Offensive Line Coach of the Year in both 2012 and 2014, and remains the first and only coach to ever earn the honor twice.
