Streamlining Broadband Deployment with AFL’s Apex® Splice Closure Family

As broadband demands rise, service providers are under pressure to do more with less—more fiber, more density, more speed, all within tighter spaces and tighter timelines. AFL’s Apex® Fiber Optic Splice Closure family was engineered to meet these challenges head-on. The lineup includes five models—Apex X-1, X-2S, X-2, X-3 and X-3H—each designed to support different fiber counts and deployment environments while delivering a consistent, simplified installation experience.

Built for Speed, Density and Reliability

Across the entire Apex family, installers benefit from AFL’s independent wedge-based gel sealing system, which allows cables to be installed and sealed in seconds. Universal splice trays eliminate the need to stock multiple tray types, while molded slack storage and clean routing paths help maintain organization and protect fibers throughout the life of the network. When paired with high-density AFL cables such as MicroCore® and Wrapping Tube Cable (WTC) with SpiderWeb Ribbon® (SWR®), Apex closures help maximize available space and dramatically increase splice capacity.

A Snapshot of the Apex Family

Rural and Small Network Builds

The Apex X-1 is the most compact closure in the series, ideal for rural builds and small network deployments where space is limited but reliability is critical. It supports up to 144 single fibers, 432 mass fusion with standard ribbon, or 864 SWR.

Growing and High-Density Networks

Apex X-2S and X-2 are mid-sized options designed to serve moderate fiber counts. The X-2S supports up to 1,728 using mass fusion with rollable ribbon, like SWR, and the X-2 covers a larger footprint for expanding networks, offering capacity up to 3,456 splices with SWR technology.

Large-Scale, High-Fiber Builds

For high-fiber-count and large-scale builds, Apex X-3 and X-3H deliver exceptional capacity and slack management. The X-3 is built for high-fiber-count applications, supporting up to 5,184 SWR splices with excellent slack management. As the highest-density model in the lineup, the X-3H can accommodate up to 6,912 SWR splices for large-scale builds.

Designed for Real-World Deployment

Apex closures are qualified for above- and below-grade environments, and every critical component is field-replaceable. Whether you’re lighting up new service areas or scaling existing networks, the Apex family offers a smarter way to meet today’s broadband demands—keeping providers compliant, confident and ahead of the curve.
