150 ■ THE WOLFPACKER ■ FOOTBALL RECRUITING added 11 receptions for 210 yards on of- fense. Defensively, he amassed 73 tackles and seven interceptions. Most colleges, including NC State, prefer the 6-1, 200-pounder for defense. NC State is considered Walker's leader over South Carolina and UNC, and a deci- sion should come late summer or early fall. Rivals.com rates Walker as a three-star prospect, the No. 18 recruit in the state and the No. 33 athlete in the land. 10. SHYHEIM BATTLE, CB Rocky Mount High T h e 6 - 2 , 1 7 0 - p o u n d Battle is not as well built as Davis — yet —and may not be quite as athletic, but he is still considered a top cornerback prospect that showed last year he can pro- vide blanket coverage on receivers. As a junior, Battle compiled 31 tackles and three passes broken up while rarely being challenged. He also caught 17 passes for 361 yards and four scores as a receiver. Clemson has been his leader for most of the spring and summer, but he visited NC State twice in June and the Pack is a serious contender. Rivals.com rates Battle, who will make his choice Dec. 15, as a four-star talent, the No. 9 recruit from North Carolina, and the No. 26 cornerback and No. 220 overall prospect nationally. 11. OSITA EKWONU, LB Charlotte Providence Day Ekwonu is a fast line- backer whose stock ex- ploded in the spring with offers from the likes of Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Penn State before he verbally commit- ted to the Fighting Irish in June. He tallied 101 tackles, three sacks and three passes broken ups last fall, and also rushed for 600 yards and 13 touchdowns. Rivals.com ranks Ekwonu as a four-star recruit, the No. 6 prospect in the state, and the No. 9 inside linebacker and No. 181 overall player in the country. 12. DEREK BOYKINS, LB Concord Central Cabarrus As a junior, Boykins racked up 79 tackles, eight stops for loss and two forced fumbles. What stands out about him, however, is how well he moves for someone 6-2, 220 pounds. At times, he almost looks like a safety playing line- Cardinal International Trucks 1526 South Blount Street, Raleigh, NC 27603 (919) 832-5871 www.cardinalinternationaltrucks.com Sometimes, adding just the right person to a team makes all the difference.
