58 ■ THE WOLFPACKER RUNNING BACKS BY MATT CARTER T here had been 13 seasons between T.A. McLendon breaking the 1,000-yard rushing barrier in 2002 and Matthew Dayes finally ending that drought in 2016. There would be no such gap between Dayes and his successor in the 1,000-yard club. Last fall, junior Nyheim Hines emerged as a big-play running back. He finished the year with 1,112 rushing yards despite missing almost one entire game (at Notre Dame) and a good chunk of an- other (at Wake Forest), while also playing at less than 100 percent in other contests. Hines parlayed his success into a decision to leave early for the NFL Draft, where he was chosen in the fourth round by the India- napolis Colts. The first chance to make it three in row belongs to senior THREE-PEAT NC State Aims For A Third Straight 1,000-Yard Rusher Senior Reggie Gallaspy II, who rushed for 1,055 yards (4.6 per carry) and 13 touchdowns as a backup his first three years in Raleigh, inherits the starting role in 2018 and will attempt to become the third straight Pack ball carrier to put together a 1,000-yard season.
