Time Management/Cost – Taking on a high-volume order may take up more time than expected. With a high-volume order, your sell price most likely came down. Ask yourself how you would price and order 100 shirts for five different accounts versus 500 shirts for a single account. Perhaps taking the five smaller orders is a better deal. Equipment – Do you have the right equip- ment to do the high-volume job? Do you have enough consumables? Do you have the per- sonnel that are trained and can complete the orders without many mistakes? Outsourcing – Sometimes it's best to say yes to the order – and then outsource the job. Larger heat presses can save you time when working on a high-volume order. order. Along with knowing your customer, there are some general shop considerations to follow in order to best fulfill a high- volume order. All sources agree that these orders are not to be taken lightly. "Confirm all neces- sary items are in stock assuring there will be no back-ordered items that could cause a delay," Haas emphasizes. Shops must also consider storage space. For instance, Haas poses, "Where will you store the boxes or pallets of items to sandcarve? For example, bricks or pavers: How will you receive these pallets? Do you have a forklift or pallet jack to move pallets?" Beyond that, there's a time factor to deal with as well. "It's important to allow enough production time for the job and quote the customer accordingly," Hunter advises. "Also, be sure to quote the right price for the overall job — don't underes- timate the various costs involved." Factors that play into pricing include manpower on top of supply and equipment costs.
