40 THE SHOP SEPTEMBER 2018 Y our shop toils endlessly to create vehi- cles that are customers' prized pos- sessions. Moreover, they are rolling billboards for the work you do. The last thing anyone wants is for that vehicle to be stolen after hours of work have been poured into it. Even if the vehicle is recovered, many times the damage is already done. Thieves don't care how much time you spent creating that custom dash- board and interior—they'll start ripping panels aimlessly in an effort to hotwire the vehicle. However, only the most brazen bad guys will stick around if a siren is blaring in their face. Moreover, with today's connec- tivity, it is easy to get a text sent to a key fob or a customer's smartphone about a disturbance. That's why security systems are of paramount importance and should be one of the first aftermarket upgrades customers consider—especially on older vehicles that do not have transponders built-in from the factory. With all the aftermarket equipment installed by your shop, it would be a shame to have it all gone in 60 seconds. KEEPING IT SIMPLE For those shops just getting their feet wet in the car security game, CrimeStopper's 1-Way Security and Keyless Entry Systems are an easy way to jump into the pool. "Our new SP-102 is the start of our deluxe universal security system with keyless entry. The system includes two small four-button remotes with up to 500 feet of range, fea- turing a dual-stage shock sensor, siren and starter kill output. There is a lot of security packed into a very small package," says Alvin Klement, national sales manager. The CrimeStopper SP-102 allows the user to arm/lock, disarm/unlock and release the trunk, and can perform all of these functions without audible alerts in silent mode. The system also offers single- or double-pulse for unlock, as well as the ability to work with electric or vacuum- locking systems like those found on older Mercedes-Benz vehicles. "We are also launching a new look with the SP-102's packaging—one that will soon be emulated within the rest of the line," adds Klement. The hardware more than covers the bases for protecting most rides by scaring away most common criminals and would seem to be a no-brainer for vehicles equipped with aftermarket wheels or high-end audio equipment. TWO-WAY COMMUNICATIONS The next step up in the vehicle security world is two-way communications. This means the user gets a notification that the vehicle is armed or the remote start system signal was heard by the vehicle.
