46 THE SHOP SEPTEMBER 2018 W hen law school student Martin Sarukhanyan first joined the crew at AR Auto Service about five years ago, he was a customer who had met owner Eddie Nakato at the track. Sarukhanyan was seeking a summer gig and asked if the shop needed help. Tasked with managing the front office at the full- service maintenance and repair facility in Lake Oswego, Oregon, he answered phone calls and emails, greeted customers, sched- uled jobs, calculated quotes and managed builds—and found his true calling. Sarukhanyan now serves as a performance specialist and is one of eight employees at AR Auto Service (arautoservice.com), situ- ated just 15 minutes outside of downtown Portland. The shop offers everything from regular maintenance services like brake flushes and oil changes on all makes and models (with the exception of older vin- tage cars) to performance upgrades and modifications, including adding horse- power, chassis work, setting up suspension, selling coil-overs and corner-balancing and aligning vehicles. "You name it, we do it," he says.
