SEPTEMBER 2018 THE WOLVERINE 41 Nate Johnson CB 3 Caught one pass for four yards as a freshman before moving to corner- back, but was dismissed from the team before his second year. He's now at Arizona Western Junior College. Ron Johnson DL 4 Redshirted in 2016 and did not register a tackle last year, though he was named Scout Team Player of the Week twice. Vying for playing time at both tackle and end. Carlo Kemp DL 4 Has appeared in 15 games as a reserve defensive end and recently moved inside to play tackle. He's notched three career tackles, all com- ing last year. David Long CB 4 Earned 13 starts at cornerback last year after playing in four games as a freshman and earned honorable men- tion All-Big Ten honors. Has registered 21 career tackles, eight pass breakups and two picks in two years. Pro Foot- ball Focus' analytics love him — he ranked first in the FBS in 2017 with a catch rate allowed of 31 percent. Elysee Mbem-Bosse LB 4 Earned two varsity letters and played in 12 games before being dis- missed from the team. Has yet to re- surface elsewhere. Eddie McDoom WR 3 Played in all 13 games as a slot re- ceiver and caught five passes for 59 yards as a frosh, adding 16 rushes for 160 yards on sweeps. He notched 81 yards receiving and 43 rushing last season, but left the team this summer. Sean McKeon TE 3 Played in four games as a frosh before breaking out last year as an honorable mention All-Big Ten selec- tion. Has appeared in 17 games (11 starts) with 33 receptions totaling 311 yards, including three touchdowns. His 31 catches and three receiving touchdowns paced the squad in 2017. Josh Metellus S 3 Played in nine games with one start as a frosh and earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors in his second year. He's totaled 65 tackles and five pass breakups in two years (21 games, 13 starts). Ahmir Mitchell WR 4 Struggled off the field and left the program before playing a game, transferring to Rutgers. Dismissed from Rutgers and signed with Ari- zona Western College and is now at Fort Scott (Kansas) Junior College. Quinn Nordin PK 3 Became the team's starting kicker last year after redshirting his first sea- son and was an honorable mention All-Big Ten pick after making 19 of his 24 field goal attempts. His six makes from 40 yards or more were one be- hind U-M single-season leader Ali Haji-Sheikh, while his 19 overall con- versions tied for second. He's already tied for third in program history with a pair of 50-plus yard field goals. Michael Onwenu OL 4 Has appeared in 20 games, includ- ing 14 on offense with nine starts, but is in a battle to keep his starting right guard job. His conditioning could be the key to his success. Brandon Peters QB 4 Appeared in six games last year, starting four, and completed 57 of 108 passes for 672 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions. He's battling to start this season and made strides in the spring. Stephen Spanellis OL 3 Played in 13 games last year, five as a reserve lineman, and came on late in the season, even playing significant minutes at center in the Outback Bowl. He's in the mix to start at right guard. Josh Uche LB 3 One of the team's potential break- out players this season after a huge spring. Harbaugh said he could be a "complete animal" and has the goods to be an elite pass rusher. He's notched six total tackles (one for loss) in 14 games played. Kareem Walker RB 4 Struggled with off-field issues in his first two years and never found his niche at U-M. He transferred to Fort Scott (Kansas) Junior College this summer after recording 68 yards and a touchdown in his one season on the field. ❏ Top Contributor To Date LB Devin Bush Jr.: Bush went from special teams standout as a freshman to an All-American linebacker in year two. He enters this season as a preseason All-American and projected first-round NFL Draft pick after his huge sophomore campaign. He was one of five finalists for the Butkus Award, given annually to the nation's top linebacker, last season. Unsung Hero CB David Long: He led the nation last year by limiting quarterbacks to an 11.9 passer rating when he was targeted, Pro Football Focus reported … and he was still somewhat overshadowed by fellow corner and classmate Lavert Hill. He could be one of the Big Ten's best this year. Ready To Make An Impact This Fall DT Michael Dwumfour: The redshirt sophomore has lost weight and was the most improved player in the spring, to the point that teammates were calling him "Mo Hurst Jr." after Michigan's departed All-American tackle. Dwumfour still has to prove it, but he's continued with an outstanding start to fall camp. According to Pro Football Focus, junior cor- nerback David Long was targeted 22 times in Big Ten play last year and allowed just eight catches for 79 yards while picking off a pair of passes and breaking up three more.
